Jan Erik Solem is the founder and CTO of startup Polar Rose working with socially aware face recognition and computer vision for organizing and sharing photos on phones and computers. Polar Rose's pioneering work in popularizing face recognition for consumers and the Web was awarded World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer, Red Herring Global 100 and many others. The recent mobile face recognition prototype Recognizr has drawn much attention and will provoke new face recognition solutions on mobile phones.
Born in Switzerland, Jan Erik lives in southern Sweden. He has a PhD and a part-time associate professorship at the Mathematical Imaging Group at Lund University, Sweden. His current interests include large- scale vision problems, object recognition and visual retrieval.
